Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training

Coastside CERT Basic Training is available now in the new Hybrid CERT Training format explained on the home page of Registration for the online portion of CERT Hybrid Training is live now. The in-person, hands-on skills training aspect of CERT Hybrid Training is led by Fire Battalion Chief and CERT Program Manager David Cosgrave. The next in-person, hands on skills days are November 7 & 8, 2020. You must completed the online training and submit your completion certificate to to qualify for the November 7 & 8 in-person training. If you complete both the online and in person emergency preparedness training, you will graduate as a full fledged CERT on November 8, 2020.

The online aspect of Hybrid CERT training is continuous and may be completed on your own schedule. If you do not complete the online sequence by November 6 to qualify for the in person training sessions on November 7 and 8, the next in person training dates will be scheduled in the first quarter of 2021.

Our CERT classes are offered with special local emphasis on potential Coastside emergencies.

All training is free.

CERT Basic Training Overview

The CERT Basic Training course is the FEMA -based Hybrid CERT 28 hour online + hands-on basic emergency preparedness and response skills training class consisting of an online set of topical training modules estimated to take 12 hours to complete and two weekend days (16 hours) taught at Coastside Fire House 40, 1191 Main St, Half Moon Bay.

CERT Basic Training covers the following topics in 9 modules:

  2. Fire Safety and Utility Controls

  3. Disaster Medical Operations 1

  4. Disaster Medical Operations 2

  5. Light Search & Rescue Operations

  6. CERT Organization

  7. Disaster Psychology

  8. Terrorism and CERT

  9. Course Review, Final Exam, and Disaster Simulation
